Good morning welcome to Crystal Thursday. Today’s topic was first posted in November of 2017 and is Prehnite. This mineral was first found in the 18th century by a Mineralogist named Hendrik von Prehn. Born in South Africa he spent many years serving in the military after which he returned to his home in the Cape of Good Hope colony, eventually becoming Governor. During his time in South Africa before moving his family to Europe he discovered the mineral that would eventually be named for him in 1788. This was said to be the first mineral to be found in South Africa and the first to named for the person who found it.
Prehnite, as I mentioned was first found in South Africa and for a long time was considered a rare mineral. It still is but not to the extent that it was previously. It has been found in France, Australia, India and the US as well. Most people know this mineral by its translucent to opaque pale green color but from what I’ve found in my research it’s also found in pink, blue and clear. Then in April of 2000 a new color was found in South Africa, and that was orange. I myself have only seen green so I’ve got some looking to do!
I’ve said Prehnite is fairly rare and that makes it more expensive. Beyond that its clarity also adds to the cost. The most valuable form of Prehnite is clear green. The other is included with Epidote and/or Black Tourmaline. The sample I have has tourmaline inclusions. I think inclusions can make a crystal or mineral more interesting because the energy of the included mineral adds to the whole. That’s not to say if I were to find a nice clear piece of Prehnite I wouldn’t buy it because, you know me and I absolutely would!
Most sources say Prehnite resonates with the Solar Plexus and Heart Chakras, but I think it also works well with the Third Eye to enhance psychic ability and help lucid dream. On the Mohs scale it comes in at 6 – 6.5.
Prehnite is considered a stone of transformation. Its energy is very soothing helping to calm stress and encourage inner peace. Let’s get to the good stuff and take a look at some of the other qualities Prehnite has to offer.
- It opens a feeling of unconditional love for all life.
- It’s said to help stop nightmares.
- It helps increase focus.
- It helps detox the kidney and lymph systems.
- It is said to repair connective tissue.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this brief look at Prehnite. If the qualities of this stone resonate with you I encourage you to purchase a piece and work with it. Keep in mind I am not a doctor and sharing the healing qualities of this stone is in no way giving medical advice. Working with it can help but if you are ill see your medical practitioner of choice.
Until Next Time…
Blessed Be ❤ Sharon
