Good morning everyone, it’s Crystal Thursday again and this week we’re taking a look at Yellow Calcite. My original post was back on October 28, 2017. Calcite is a calcium carbonate mineral containing limestone. It’s actually pretty interesting; given time, the right amount of moisture, temperature and pressure conditions the same base becomes calcite then marble.
I found a couple of possibilities for first discovery in my research. One was from the year 79 and it has Pliny the Elder naming the mineral Calix because of its lime content. I have seen a few variations of the spelling but each source was talking about the same thing. This tells us Calcite is a mineral that’s been used for a very long time. I believe the Egyptians used a type of calcite called Alabaster, when they made the burial jars to hold items the dead would need to live on the other side.
The only reference to yellow calcite being known and used was one speaking about Sage of St. Olaf writing that a yellow stone was being used for ship navigation. There is another type of calcite called Iceland Spar that’s been known to have been used for the same purpose but this article specifically mentioned a yellow stone with refractive ability. This article was dating back to the 1400’s in Iceland.
Calcite is a fairly large family of minerals. I believe there are currently 300ish known types. I don’t have samples of all of them …yet! 😀 <3!! Calcite can be found in a range of colors, both clear and opaque, all over the world but the countries I am aware of, right now, for finding and mining Yellow Calcite are Brazil, Peru and the Czech Republic. On the Mohs scale it comes in at a soft 3, and resonates with the Solar Plexus Chakra.
The energy is very gentle yet effective. Yellow Calcite is an energy transformer and amplifier, which means that it works with us to let go of stagnant low energy thought and beliefs systems as well as habits that need to go so we have room for new and better in our lives. Since it works well with the Solar Plexus Chakra the energy of this mineral will help build our confidence and motivate us to change what needs to be so we can be our best selves.
Let’s take a look at some of the other metaphysical qualities Yellow Calcite will share:
- Being a calcium carbonate material it helps with bone and joint issues.
- Working with the Solar Plexus Chakra it will help improve energy levels.
- It helps heal sadness, grief and depression.
- I’ve never used it for this purpose but it is said to improve memory and learning.
- It helps support the immune system and improve the metabolism.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this brief look at Yellow Calcite. If the qualities of this stone resonate with you I encourage you to purchase a piece and work with it. Keep in mind I am not a doctor and sharing the healing qualities of this stone is in no way giving medical advice. Working with it can help but if you are ill see your medical practitioner of choice.
Until Next Time…
Blessed Be ❤ Sharon
